Cognitive Development: One-Year-Old
One-year-olds are inquisitive explorers, tackling tasks with focus and using their growing knowledge to solve problems. They’re fascinated by mechanical toys and figuring out how things function. Imitation is a key learning tool. They mimic adult actions like brushing hair, initially alone, then incorporating others in pretend play. Parents and siblings become important role models as toddlers observe and copy their behavior.
A significant milestone is object permanence – understanding hidden objects still exist. This newfound knowledge helps ease separation anxiety as they grasp caregivers will return even after leaving. However, despite their growing understanding, toddlers lack good judgment. They may know how things work individually but struggle to predict cause and effect, requiring constant supervision for safety.
